Clarke Infinity Managing Director, Simon Clarke, spoke about the company’s latest project, which was carried out on a four-storey, seven-bedroom property in Essex, wherein the work comprised visionary installations including in the home cinema and swimming pool. This project, North Lodge, also emphasised the importance of collaboration with other experts.

Home Cinema room
“There are two main rooms in this house in which to watch television. Whilst the sound and picture are great in the main open-plan family room – a casual viewing room – when planning to watch something really important and immersive, the family retires into the home cinema room for an even greater experience.
“One thing we really try to work out at the start of the project is the reverberation time for the room; that is the most important element to get right. We worked closely with the interior designer for this cinema room, to make sure we have a reverberation time of between 0.3 and 0.5 seconds. As we had window glass across the back of the room, and at the side of the space which leads through to a snooker room, we had to use 10-ounce curtains to make up for the lack of absorption on these walls – and the end result is absolutely perfect.
“This room is really successful, but it wouldn’t be complete without lighting; the lighting control is Lutron Alisse and we worked with John Cullen Lighting on the design, who lit up the artwork and the back wall with some really nice fittings, which work really well.
“One of the unique features of this room the way it is separated and leads through to the snooker room; with nowhere to put the light switch, we put a sensor under the floor which means the curtains will open intuitively as you approach.”
Swimming Pool room
“In the basement of this house is a swimming pool which doubles up with a dance floor – sounds amazing!
“We put some invisible speakers in there… Swimming pools can be really echoey but we addressed this by bringing in 50 square metres of acoustic plaster which allows the sound to be amazing, without the level of reverberation you would normally expect in a swimming pool.
“Like the whole house, the room is controlled by sensible heating which will monitor the temperature in each room and allow you to change the temperature to whatever you want in each individual space, turning on the air conditioning or underfloor heating depending on how hot or cold the room is.
“All you need in each room is a tiny sensor – roughly the size of a 2-pence coin and can be any colour or finish to fit in with the interior design.”

“They had a really good interior designer in Hannah Cokeley, a great architect in RKD, and Woodstone Builders were also fundamental to the success of this project.
“But the most important thing to get right in a property this size, by far, is the lighting control. We’ve used Lutron Homeworks throughout, as we have been for about thirty years now… and for this project we worked as partners with John Cullen Lighting – and the end result is amazing.”
