Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa is a luxury hotel in Newmarket, Suffolk – originally a Georgian hunting lodge built for the sixth Duke of Bedford in the 18th century it was converted into a hotel in the 1940s. The hotel team were planning an extensive refurbishment aiming to retain the charm and character of a country house but with the modern luxury and comfort of a boutique hotel. Following a recommendation from the architect, Clarke Infinity were called in during the early planning stages to help with the renovation of the spa.

THE CHALLENGE

A Cost effective, luxurious ceiling solution

The fabric of the building, particularly the roof space, was deteriorating due to the environment of the spa. The humidity and high temperatures combined with corrosive chemicals was attacking some of the materials used in the original construction and the challenge was to address this with a cost-effective, long lasting ceiling solution that would deliver a luxurious feel enhancing the Fitness & Leisure Club and the Hydrotherapy Spa offering.

THE SOLUTION

State-of-the-art Barrisol stretched ceiling

Clarke Infinity have extensive technical knowledge enabling them to design and implement state-of-the-art solutions choosing the right products to best fit the client’s needs. Clarke Infinity recommended a Barrisol stretched ceiling to address the issues created by the combination of humidity and chemicals used at the pool and spa.

The Barrisol ceiling solution eliminated the problem of the deteriorating building by creating a vapour barrier between the spa and the roof space. Clarke’s recommendation was based in the knowledge that the Barrisol ceiling would create a better aesthetic finish than could be achieved with other materials.

The stretched fabric was quick to install and was an excellent cost-effective option due to very low ongoing costs and as it is extremely durable with no decorating required. The finish is to an extremely high standard with some of the ceiling enhance by linear perimeter lighting delivering an ultimate clean and luxurious finish.
