Clarke Infinity joins the Best of Essex
November 28, 2023The Difference Between a Home Cinema and Media Room
January 22, 2024In the lead up to the Christmas period, like many people and their families and friends, our thoughts turn to the array of festive films and Christmas TV specials that will grace our screens this year.
Whichever much-loved favourites you’ll settle down to watch for the tenth time, or the new shows you’ve got circled or earmarked in the once-a-year copy of the Radio Times, the festive season of viewing reaches new levels in the comfort and decadence of your own home cinema… that’s what Christmas is all about, after all!
We recently worked on a beautiful, dedicated home cinema for our clients at Hollywood House, a project that simply oozed superstar quality. The customer was after something truly special – an uncompromising cinematic experience, the transformation of their space into a state-of-the-art home cinema room that any movie fan would be proud to call their own. The Clarke team of smart home designers and installers, as ever, were up to the task.
We set up a Sony VPL-XW5000 projector with a 3m microperforated fixed frame projection screen, alongside an Anthem power amplifier, Storm Core 16 processor, Wisdom Audio Insight speakers, Sonance 300-watt power subwoofers and more… very much a formidable combination of top-quality kit, selected and installed by our experts, to deliver a truly impressive audio-visual experience in every possible sense.
One factor that should not be overlooked in such a space is ensuring to get the acoustics right from the very beginning. Consideration of ambient noise – how to make sure that disturbance from sound from outside the room is prevented, while reducing excess noise from within the room itself (such as from the projector or air conditioning unit) – is paramount to an immersive experience, allowing viewers to experience the highs and the lows of action on screen, uninterrupted and without distraction. In Hollywood House, we achieved incredible acoustic results by covering the whole lower and rear walls with 30mm of absorber, while base tubes in the front wall help to keep the base end under control.
Ceiling and side lighting added to the sense of drama of the room, while bespoke seating delivers the heights of comfort, allowing the owners to sit back and settle in, able to adjust the audio and visuals with ultimate ease via the Kaleidescape 4K Ultra HD movie player and connected control tablet.
